About this deal

So when I was offered the chance to review her latest, I decided it was a good opportunity to finally find out what I’d been missing. It seems only fair that one holds back the finer details when reviewing what has been described as an “unguessable mystery” by the “queen of the intricate psychological puzzle mystery” Sophie Hannah, but to a large extent, this reviewer can at least confirm that while maybe not unsolvable, The Couple At The Table certainly keeps you guessing until the very end. MY THOUGHTS: Lucy Dean describes her ex-husband William Gleave as 'like a computer that's only had a quarter of its software installed.

As the investigation begins to gather pace once more, Waterhouse begins to form a picture of exactly what happened on that warm July evening, and to understand the relationships between the people that were at Tevendon when Jane Brinkwood died. And to top off the classic feel in this very modern novel, a map of the scene of the murder is included within the story (only thing missing for the trifecta is a character list). she is told “ beware of the couple at the next table” which isn’t helpful as all the tables are the same distance apart. The summaries are so tantalizing but I am just not loving it (perhaps the ones I've chosen are just the middlers). There are so many couples and theories and no way that I could have figured out what really happened.Jane had also managed to upset everybody else at the resort, so there are plenty of suspects for Waterhouse and Zailer to investigate, although as everyone has an alibi, getting to the bottom of the matter proves rather difficult indeed. Honeymooners at a posh resort receive an ominous warning with deadly consequences in the latest gripping, twisty psychological thriller from New York Times bestselling author Sophie Hannah. DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Hodder and Stoughton via Netgalley for providing a digital ARC of The Couple at the Table by Sophie Hannah for review.

I always hugely look forward to a new Sophie Hannah book, and the premise of this book intrigued me. So a quick glance over my reading records on Goodreads indicated that I haven’t read a Sophie Hannah book before. The narrative is defined by some clear and flowing writing, with an obvious focus on the psychological, which I appreciated. We switch between Simon and Charlie’s perspectives, that of the other guests (mainly Lucy’s), and also staff member Anita.Once you're dead, all the evidence seems to imply that no one at the resort had anything to do with it. Lucy is the driving force behind the investigation, her interference providing fresh fodder for the police. Perhaps if you're newer to thrillers or you like a vintage type of thriller, this would appeal to you.

So much that my kids bought her latest book for Mother’s Day when they were about eight and ten years old (now sixteen and eighteen). But someone in this dining room will be dead before breakfast, and all the evidence will suggest that no one there that night could have possibly committed the crime. As I read The Couple at the Table, I got the feeling that it started life as a plot for one of Hannah’s Poirot novels. You also don’t know that you’re about to be murdered, or that once you’re dead, all the evidence will suggest that no one there that night could possibly have committed the crime. In this outing they find themselves at the centre of a murder investigation as someone offs Jane Brinkwood at the luxury couples-only Tevendon Resort while Waterhouse and Zailer are there as guests. Oh, and I should mention – Simon and Charlie happened to be staying in the same resort at the time of the murder! I enjoy the authors writing but for me following a strong start the story lacked excitement and tedious. At times the description could equally well have fitted DC Simon Waterhouse, a man obsessed with a crime, a murder, that appears to have no solution.

Married police officers Simon Waterhouse and Charlie Zailer are supposed to be taking a holiday at a luxurious resort not far from where they live. I did actually guess the killer correctly but honestly it wasn't through intelligent unravelling of the clues the author offers but a pure stab in the dark that happened to hit home. I heard Hannah talking about it on the radio and even as she described the story I felt she was struggling to sell the premise. Next, Sophie takes you through the case which is being investigated by DC Simon Waterhouse (the best detective in crime writing IMO).Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). The Couple at the Table is the eleventh book in a series penned by British novelist and poet Sophie Hannah.
