Famous Streets in London to Visit 1. Abbey Road The famous zebra crossing where the Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover was shot The Shop sign gets the graffiti nowadays, as the street signs were pilfered long ago The trees opened up to give carefully planned glimpses of interest points, often classical temples, bridges, or monuments. Everything was meticulously contrived to give a sense of informality, of natural beauty, though of course nothing in the garden was "natural" at all. Tiny Denmark Street, in a far-flung corner of the West End off Charing Cross Road, is known as the Tin Pan Alley of England. It was the home of music publishers and the UK music press in the 1950s and ‘60s, and later home to several recording studios. Whitehall Club – the setting of the murder mystery in the novel Keep It Quiet (1935) by Richard Hull. Rioting in Trafalgar Square and surrounding streets following England losing against Germany in the semi-final of UEFA Euro 1996

Notable people associated with the church [ edit ] Memorial plaque to John Newton and his wife in the church.

I would be keen to discover links between Spitalfield Huguenots and the southern part of France where silk worms were farmed and where mulberry trees are still part of the landscape. I went on a tourist visit of a small village in the Ardeche (Alba-la-Romaine) where the guide mentionned that the scars of those religious wars run so deep that people from the area are reluctant to talk about them to this day. Piccadilly (sharing the premises of the Naval and Military Club between 1969 and the 1990s); 69 Brook Street sharing the premises of the Savile Club; (current, sharing premises of the Army & Navy Club) Industries: Silk-weaving', A History of the County of Middlesex: Volume 2". british-history.ac.uk . Spring Gardens (1868–1871); 12 Savile Row (1871–1882); 107 Piccadilly (1882–1927); 69 Brook Street (current) You can buy anything from antiques to bric-a-brac to clothes to furniture to street food there. The busiest areas we saw were the southern end, around the antique shops and stalls, up to the Westway bridge. North of there the crowds thinned out considerably.

Further along on the left, the lovely early 17 th century St Katharine Cree church is one of the few City of London churches to escape the Great Fire and the Blitz unscathed. Nearest Tube – Liverpool Street or Aldgate 30. Frith Street Bar Italia has been caffeinating customers on Frith Street since 1949 Lancelot Brown (1716 – 6 February 1783), more commonly known as Capability Brown, was an English landscape architect. He is remembered as "the last of the great English eighteenth-century artists to be accorded his due", and "England's greatest gardener". He designed over 170 parks, many of which still endure. His influence was so great that the contributions to the English garden made by Charles Bridgeman and William Kent are often overlooked; even Kent's apologist Horace Walpole allowed that Kent had been followed by "a very able master".

Cheyne Walk is one of the most expensive streets in London. Properties there go for eye-watering prices, and you’d need an 8-digit bank account balance in pounds to buy one of the magnificent townhouses there. It’s one of the most beautiful old streets in London, which is a huge factor, of course. It’s on our list for one reason alone: the awe-inspiring view up the hill towards one of the finest buildings in London and one of the most famous landmarks in England , St Paul’s Cathedral. The approach up Ludgate Hill is magnificent, towards the grand west front flanked by twin towers, with the spectacular dome behind. It is possible that your Thomas Robelon was the brother of Abraham but I have not found any written evidence. The one thing that does link them is that Elizabeth Pulley was the Godmother of (your) Thomas’ son Thomas and James Pulley was a witness at the marriage of Susanna Robelon (Abraham / Ann’s daughter) to Francis Greenwood.

My Huguenot connection is Judith Raby / Charles Cecil. So Jan Baker, Denise Golding, Jane Hughes, Michael Cecil and Marie Welch we have common ancestors. My 2 x Great Grandmother was Caroline Elizabeth Cecil. Caroline travelled to Australia as an assisted immigrant and single woman at 21 years of age. Charles and Judith were her great grandparents. Portobello Road is one of the best-known movie locations in London. Most famously, much of Notting Hill was shot there and nearby, and The Travel Bookshop, with its poster of Julia Roberts in the window, still draws the crowds.

A statue of Holmes can be found around the corner, on Marylebone Road, close to Madame Tussauds waxworks museum. He became immensely sought after by the aristocracy, and it is estimated that he was responsible for some 170 gardens surrounding the finest country houses and estates in Britain. So numerous are his designs, and so widespread was his influence, that it is almost harder to find a prominent country house that did not have a garden designed by Capability Brown. There is often live music and a great vibe to the place. It has grown a lot since she first started going over 20 years ago and now has over sixty independent businesses from small art galleries, cupcake shops, vintage clothes, delis and some great restaurants, cafes and pubs .
