About this deal

There is information on breeding, wintering and migration patterns as well as much to discover on identification, moult patterns, range, voice, food and feeding, breeding ecology, and conservation. I brought this as my present bird app doesn't cover out of UK though I have been using it for France records. A sign of its continuing success is that 23 years later the same excitement has surrounded the arrival of the third edition! The book also includes a helpful section on identifying birds by colour and in flight, highlighting tell-tale features to help you distinguish one species from another. For each species shown the author always offers fascinating facts that even a keen naturalist or birdwatcher might not already know.

Confusion species are included, as are vocalisation details for species whose identification it aids. The guides and handbooks on this page were published between 2000 and the present and cover the birds of Great Britain and often the wider European or Western Palearctic region.Malcolm Knowles introduced the term andragogy as a term meaning "the art and science of helping adults learn". I’m sure if you are already an expert this is not a problem, but for a casual birdwatchers it is easy to get lost.

This is the most compact and concise guide to the 430 species of birds that live in or regularly visit Britain and the rest of Europe. Whether observing what is feeding, nesting or bathing in your garden, or further afield, or trying to identify a bird on the wing, this book is perfect for use at home, out in the car or in the field. Close-up photographs and notes on distinguishing features will help you identify different species of bird in the field. I appreciate what this guide tries to achieve, but it’s comprehensive approach makes it as a very complicated app to use which loses any sense of being intuitive. This is the most comprehensive, up-to-date and practical bird book of modern times, featuring an unrivalled selection of photographs that show all the plumages you are likely to see.

You will not find a more compact and comprehensive guide to the birds that live in or reguarly visit Britain and the rest of Europe. In addition, a separate section deals with the more detailed identification of the species -- major ID characteristics, proportions, regional variations, young, juvenile and adult variation, ID of perched birds, ID of flying birds and a section on other similar species that can be easily confused.

The introduction includes an overview of bird families, while there is a section on birdsong at the end of the book. Including 1,052 fully coloured photographs and 146 distribution maps showcasing all species and subspecies, it's safe to say this is an essential for the bookshelf. This new edition builds on the strengths of the unrivalled original, covering over 200 species of bird found in Britain and Europe. An entry-level photographic identification guide to the commoner birds of Britain and Northern Europe. While a field guide covering European birds is always going to sell with such a high birder density across the continent, its ability to reach beyond this market and present as a top-quality, accessible bird book is full credit to both the authors and the publishers. It was way back in 1999 that birders all over the UK were anxiously anticipating the arrival of the first edition of this revolutionary book, which was first published in Swedish before being translated. New edition of this pocket-sized guide to birds from the experts at the RSPB – Europe's largest conservation organisation.
